Do sperm and eggs each have a full complement of chromosomes?

So for each trait the baby gets one allele from its mother and one allele from its father. Each parent has two alleles they could possibly contribute. Let's say the father has A & B and the mother has C & D. My question is, does each sperm have A & B and then, when the egg gets fertilized A or B is chosen --- or does each sperm only have A or B?
